SOBOTANICS X PÁJARA PINTA
What? Collab with the natural dyes' textile studio SoBotanics to create a colourful limited edition of pareos, scrunchies and hats.
Each piece was naturally dyed with pigments that come from avocado, onion, eucalyptus, achiote, turmeric, indigo and/or cochineal.
Where? Colombia.
Why? To encourage our goal of making everyday decisions guided by durability, ethical practices, fair trade and next-to-zero waste.
How did you discover your passion for natural dyes?
Sofia: I have an intrinsic love for textiles, textures and colors. It is also amazing how genetics never lie, as they say. My mom used to tincture and make her own garments when she was a teenager. I practically grew up surrounded by textiles and sewing machines... I think the passion has always been there, but I decided to materialize it when the pandemic started.
You say each garment has a story to tell. What is the story behind the making of Pájara Pinta’s pareos and scrunchies?
Sofía: This story began years ago, when I bought my first Kankuama Mochila. I have always admired the brand -and its founders- but mostly the beautiful and genuine concept behind it that truly invite us to reconnect with the beauty of nature.
This is my first collaboration, so the pieces we developed are very emotive and special to me. Each garment portrays my essence and passion for nature and it´s colors. Also, they are all unique pieces since each immersion is a whole unknown universe. It is magical to see how colors are constantly moving!
Favorite book/podcast?
Sofía: Crime and Punishment- Fyodor Dostoyevsky. I´ve always been attracted to psychological-crime fiction.
Best piece of advice to #FeedTheSoul during these rare times?
Sofía: Find what you love and invest time in it. We tend to find excuses and postpone our plans thinking we have plenty of time, but the truth is, ideas also have an expiry date.
What does #ShiningFromWithin means to you?
Sofía: For me it is the power to transmit our light and energy to others, therefore we must use it wisely. When we do so, we transmit happiness, gratefulness and positivism.
I believe that if everyone used their light and energy consciously, we would live in a better world.
What is your favorite Pájara Pinta piece and why?
Sofía: The Camaleón pareo. It was amazing to see the result when it first came "out of bath". I have to admit that I wasn't expecting it, but it turned out to be my absolute favorite.
I also adore my Kankuama mini mochilas. I can wear them on every occasion and they are super easy to pack and travel with.
